KUALA LUMPUR – Umno veteran Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad has claimed PAS has begun moves to topple the unity government and replace it instead with a government it backs.
Taking to Facebook, Shahrir claimed that this was the second time PAS was trying to initiate such a move, the first allegedly being the Sheraton Move.
He said that during the Semenyih by-election in March 2019, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had met Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who at that time was prime minister when Pakatan Harapan was in power.
“This was their second meeting. Hadi had met Tun M earlier along with several other PAS leaders aligned to him (Hadi),” said Shahrir.
Shahrir claimed that during the meeting, Hadi stated that he would support Tun M as prime minister until the end of the 14th parliamentary term.
“Soon after that, six MPs from Barisan Nasional, without the knowledge of Umno, also pledged their support for Tun M. They did this just before the Tanjung Piai by-election in November the same year,” he said.
These two declarations of support, said Shahrir, were part of the Sheraton Move where PAS and several MPs from Umno-BN supported Tun M as prime minister.
“This caused the downfall of PH, and Perikatan Nasional took over soon after. PAS was behind all this and now they are trying to do it again,” alleged Shahrir.
